Robert (Bob) Leslie Martin, formerly of Comanche, passed away on Sunday morning Sept. 15, 2024, at the age of 82 in The Veteran’s Home in Norman. Bob was born Jan. 11,1942 to Leslie Leroy Martin and Phyllis Eleanor Johnston Martin in Hobbs, N.M.
He grew up in Levelland,Texas and Farmington, N.M. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1959. After working a few years, he joined the United States Air Force in 1962. He was stationed at several Air Force bases and was trained as a technician on radar sets of the F4 phantom jets. He served in Vietnam for a year.
On Dec. 31, 1965, he married Derinda Riley. To this union, two children were born . That marriage later ended in 1983. After being discharged from the Air Force, in 1966,Bob enrolled in college at USAO. He graduated with a BS degree in business in 1970. Bob worked in sales and in the oil field.
In 1988 he met Jenene Bowles Bailey. They were married April 22, 1989. They lived in Meridian until 2001. Then they moved to Pagosa Springs, Colo. and eventually back to Oklahoma, making their home in Edmond.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jenene, a son Ryan Martin and wife Teressa of Lyndon, Kan., his daughter Shannon McCollum and husband Darin of Kansas City, Mo. and grandchildren Taylor Ratzloff, Regan Osborn, Riley Martin, Jacob McCollum, Dylan McCollum, and Ella McCollum. Also survived by his bonus daughters, Julee Caudill and husband Doug, of Piedmont and Jeana Parker and husband Gavan of Mustang and five granddaughters Chaysee, Channing, Chesnie, Lindee and Landynn. He is also survived by sister-in-law Lana Martin, several nieces and nephew’s, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepdad, David Sumpter, and brothers, Norman Martin and Don Martin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday,Oct. 12,2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Comanche,with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating, under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. His ashes will be interred in Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche.
